Great analysis. What did you study while in college? What a unique sociological experiment this was, to observe while working.

If we could disentangle the consumerist and the masculinity components to guns (instead of actually physically removing them), we could have a more stable society. A gun just isn't a gun nowadays, but it's a symbol.

As a thought experiment, what if that ultra-masculinity symbol was diluted by overselling guns to women and the gay community? Could that make a difference in those guys minds? Similar to the alcohol industry and how their fastest growing buyers are women. I wonder how that's diluted the old feeling of drinking being a man's activity.
