**Some questions about the alcohol industry.**

  • Why is the term ‘Big Alcohol’ not more common, like Big Tobacco was? The phrase makes it sound big, evil, and ominous.
  • Why is wine tasting ‘fancy’ and premium liquor ‘distinguished’ but cigarette smoking is ‘gross?’
  • Is alcohol being promoted as recklessly nowadays, as sodas were in the 90's?

Craft beer makers try to integrate themselves into the community while large alcohol corporations market themselves as light-hearted. Celebrities promote alcohol and even create their own brands.

Brain Drain

I’ve seen MBA students join and expand the alcohol industry, which I feel is a misuse of intellectual and social capital.

Kids

Alcohol advertisements are increasingly prevalent, even where kids are present; Super Bowl, games, billboards, Instagram, etc.

We stopped the vaping industry for promoting fruity flavors that were liked by teens, but why aren’t fruity hard seltzers criticized for doing the same?

Do you think we’ll see a movement against Big Alcohol soon?
